Lactation Consultant
My principles
-
I try to solve the problem in one consultation.
-
I strive to ensure that after my treatment the Mother remains confident that she can cope with almost any difficulty with her breastfeeding, if it arises in the future, and will have a clear plan of action in her specific situation.
-
I am convinced: the goal of a postpartum specialist is not just to check if everything is okay, or to solve a problem, but also to help Mom and Dad develop what I call "parental competence". Not to be a crutch, without which they can not do, but to teach SKILLS that will help them feel good enough parents.
What I do during the visit (consultation)?
-
I come to your home, hospital or see you in my office if it’s convenient for everyone, or we work online via video call (in the majority of cases it is as effective as in person)
-
Before the visit, I collect detailed information about the birth, the baby, the mother, the feeding history
-
I let you cry when you need to and give room for your emotions. We are in no hurry
-
I assess the breast for lumps and the condition of the mammary gland, or have you examine it under my video supervision
-
I work with lactostasis/plugged ducts
-
I check and correct baby’s latch
-
We choose feeding positions that are comfortable for you
-
I check baby’s mouth: quality of sucking, frenulum, tongue, & listen to swallowing
-
I look for the cause of the current problem & explain it to you
-
We create an action plan and stay in touch for 1 week after
-
I refer you to a doctor if necessary
-
I teach you how to care for the breast
-
I educate you about the breast pump and other devices
-
I provide psychological and emotional support

In what cases more than 1 consultation may be needed?
-
Hypoplasia of the mammary gland: reaching exclusive breastfeeding may take time
-
Severe nipple traumatisation: first heal, then latch
-
The baby is in NICU: we solve the problem of maintaining lactation, then we learn to breastfeed directly
-
Complicated history of the mother from the endocrine system, IVF protocol, diabetes, PCOS, etc.
-
Suspected or diagnosed postpartum depression
-
Hypersensitivity of the breast
-
Maxillofacial deformities in the baby
-
Prematurity/extremely low or very high weight of the baby
-
Presence of a bottle or pacifier

I want to do it myself!:)
And I support this in every way, not only in words but also in actions! Specifically for mothers who are about to breastfeed for the first time or who've already had not very good experience with previous babies, I have created a practical course with basic knowledge about comfortable breastfeeding from the very first day! Remembering my, to say the least, not smooth experience of feeding my son, I am very sorry that back then there was no such structured, easy to digest and, most importantly, suitable for all women information... But now you have it)
