CHILDBIRTH EDUCATION
Prenatal Classes
Childbirth education classes offer proven, evidence-based benefits. Women who attend such classes are significantly more likely to give birth without pain relief and to have spontaneous labor—79% compared to 51% among those who did not attend (1990 study). Fathers also find these classes helpful, especially when their role as birth partners is acknowledged (UK, 1999).
Studies have shown that women who did not take classes are more likely to be admitted to the hospital during early labor, increasing the burden on medical staff. In Italy, women who attended classes had half the rate of cesarean sections and reported greater satisfaction with their birth experience. Chinese research also found that the more classes a woman attended, the lower her risk of postpartum depression.
